Hi,
I introduced a female smooth knobtail (N. l. levis) to my male for the
first time. I'm new to this genus and I'm not familar with the mating
behaviors of the knobtails. Within minutes, he was biting her tail. The
female then started waving her tail straight up in the air and seem to be
exposing her cloacal opening. The male than appeared to be trying to lick
the opening. Is this a normal mating behavior or a territorial response?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
