Hi all-
I am forming a group for fellow Phelsuma breeders on this side of the
Atlantic.
The objective will mainly be the coordination of breeding efforts for all
Phelsuma species being hatched in captivity, and tracking yearly breeding
numbers. I also plan to track stuff like egg production, births, juvy
aggression and mortality- or success, common ailments, parasites, quirks etc.
And not least, a stud list and geneology tracking.

Participants must be willing to track alot of data accurately and frankly. I
will compile the data into a yearly report, which I will publish in a simply
bound color printer styled journal. I hope to put out two each year, the
other issue more dedicated to husbandry and the trading, giving, and loaning
of animals amongst members to maximize breeding success, even guiding certain
species to members who show expertise with those species.
Membership will be free, as will the journals. However, those who only are
interested in reading the reports, will be charged some nominal fee. And if
participation is more than I expect, the journals may eventually be charged
at whatever the materiels cost. This group will stand apart by shunning the
sale of animals and promoting the trading and loaning of animals.
Most of the data will be collected online, with members being able to log on
and submit or update their info. The reports will be sent by mail.

I am compiling a (forever confidential) member list, and after I speak to the
GGA Board members to ask their approval, I hope to have some type of
information available and have informal discussions either at Geckonite, or
sometime during the weekend at Daytona. And frankly, if the initial effort
proves worthy, I hope to operate the group under the auspices of the GGA.
Though I must say that this part is premature, as I have not yet spoken to
any Board member about this. And please don't construe my using the listserve
for this email is an endorsement by the GGA.

Anyone wishing to become a member can contact me offlist.
In addition, while I am well along in creating the format for the information
I hope to collect- I would be grateful of any help you may think would be
useful. I am speaking mainly of items that may prove important to track. As
the group matures, I hope to add categories like lifespan, age vs. egg
production, clutchmate sexes, TSD trends, yearling mortality and various
other causes of death.
So- what do you think? Any takers? I'm committed to giving the effort and
donating the costs. I really feel that we can all benefit from participating
in this species specific group. And most importantly, we can improve and
increase the captive bred populations, hopefully relieving the pressure for
WC animals.
All are welcome!
Thanks-
Jason
