I would do as you did, was the bite really well, apply an anti biotic
ointment and watch the area. If it reddenes or gets worse, an infection
could be setting in and I would see a doctor.
I had a member of NYHS during a meeting bit by a snake. The person was
showing the animal, while walking around the room. All woudl have been
fine, had they not gotten goofy with a friend and shoved the snake at the
friends face. The friend turned away, but was bit on the back of their
head. A medical professional at the meeting suggested a tetnus shot. This
was not a doctor, the person refused the shot and all was fine, but it was
probably good advise.
