Hi Dan,
Do you mist your fat tail, or could he be knocking water out of his dish?
Calci sand doesn't seem to clump around water like normal sand, and so the
water will often pool on the surface at lower spots in the substrate.
Also, as Juli said, I would switch to something which holds humidity much
more efficiently.
