Hi-
An old sage that used to cruise this list always said- "If you keep live
geckos, you will have dead geckos". Its inevitable. You can relax- and if you
did your best, rest assured the animal fared better with you than it would
have if it stayed with the importer.
As for uroplatus, I've kept sikorae, and had an unexplained death of a long
term captive also. They like low temps and humid conditions for sure, and
they have a need for calcium in some form. Some breeders feed snails for
this. I suspect your animal simply was spent by the task of egg laying.
There was an ad recently on Kingsnake for "CBB" uroplatus. Be sure to ask
questions up front.
I know of no one who has bred lineatus, and few who have bred sikorae.
Indeed any CB offspring are usually held back. Not only are they special to
the breeders, but the buying public will always choose to pay less for the WC.
I remember Lyle Puente bred up a sikorae - beautiful animal too- not one
person was willing to buy it for $150. With WC's selling for $85-100each,
that cb hatchling was well worth the price.
Sorry for the loss. Good luck finding CB and don't give up trying to breed
uro's!
Jason
