I just rescued a Giant Day Gecko from a pet store near where I used to
live, and I have some questions on his condition. I bought him from a pet
store that had him housed with a fairly large gopher snake. The gecko had a
1" tail with a yellow stub at the end which did not look like it will ever
grow back. They were selling it on consignment for a guy who had it housed
with his iguana, and low and behold it bit the geckos tail off. The gecko
is a male and i'm pretty sure that the tail was bitten far enough back that
he is still a full male, but i'm not totally positive. The one question
that I have is that I know that they store their fat in their tails, but
without having a tail is he going to have any problems in the winter months
when its colder and he slows down his eating? I felt so sorry for this
gecko I had to take it out of the conditions it was in. Now I just hope he
will do alright. Surprisingly he looked pretty healthy despite his poor
living conditions and they said that they had him for a month, so he should
be fairly healthy, but I wasn't too sure. Thanks for everybody's help.
I will try and get some pictures of the Day Gecko tonight and post them
tomorrow, but if you have a reply, please reply in the mean time
