The fecal sample should be good for 24-48 hours if it is wrapped in damp
paper towel and kept refrigerated. I like to do the sample ASAP when I am
looking for flagellates, as they tend to die or slow down with time. As far
as treating the animals that depends on what they have. Baytril is an
antibiotic not a parasitacide. I would not expect them to use Baytril
unless they feel the animals have a bacterial infection. If they do indeed
have parasites, different meds treat different parasites.
With crytosporidia there is no cure. There are some medications that will
extend their lives, but not cure them. This is why I strongly recommend
that people quarantine new acquisitions. So far we have seen this parasite
in leopard geckos, fat tail geckos, CA kings, rosy boas, and I just saw
some in a Kenya sand boa last week.
