I am sorry I answered this late, I was away and just got around to read all my e-mail. I had the same happen to one of my Leopard Geckos. The reason is still unknown. The vet was puzzled by it to say the least. He couldn't figure it out and bothered him personally a lot. To say the least he didn't charge me for the visits to his office only medication. We finally got him out of it with Neosporin Plus. Nothing else worked. Good Luck!
