Hello Simon,
There is an excellent picture of what you are referring to on page 47 of The
Leopard Gecko manual by Vosjoli, Viets, Tremper, and Klingenberg. The
caption for the photo reads thus:
"Leopard geckos and fat-tailed geckos that show "fatty" masses behind the
forelimbs are usually in good condition for breeding."
In other words the condition you describe is nothing more than a healthy
mature gecko. Sounds like you're doing fine.
