Hello Burke,
As Catriona mentioned Tokays (Gekko gecko) should not be considered as
domesticated. But we have eight Tame/Socialized Tokay geckos ranging from CB
yearlings to +10 year old WC adults that we handle and work with weekly. So
far we (Leann and Myself) have tamed/socialized well over 50 Tokays, some of
which will be in an upcoming BBS/Discovery channel program this year. They
seem to enjoy their hands-on visits with us and are fascinated by the TV
especially action shows.
The only time that they revert back to their aggressive behavior is during
the breeding season when they are protecting their eggs and young. Once they
are outside the cage they regain their sweet dispositions and settle down.
Tokays can make great pets with a bit of work on the owners part, but they
must be respected as with any non-domesticated animal.
