Hello Elizabeth & Dimitry,
Phyllurus platurus (leaf-tailed geckos) are quite common in garages in
the Sydney area. If the animal is missing its tail I could see how
someone might confuse it with Agamura sp. The gecko will probably do
best if it's released near the house next to some trees or exposed
rock.
