I havent been following the thread...but Some garden supply houses carry a product called leaf mold. It is shredded composted oak leaves. Gardeners use the prized product for improving soil quality. Its not expensive , sometimes though the composting part seems to be forgotten and you get fresh shredded oak leaves.
