Today I found 2 more eggs of the R. ciliatus. It seems like I figured
out how the setup has to be for our animals. They are on dry "forest
floor" and the nest box is filled with moist cocoa peat covered with a
plastic plant and a piece of bark. And indeed it was 4 weeks in between.
The eggs of this yellow female look very good. The eggs of our brown
female moulded and I did throw them out this morning.
Regards,
Isabelle
A nest box will work well only if the cage substrate is
dry and unsuitable for nesting. Otherwise, they might
use it or they might not. I watch for increased mating activity
and then check for eggs. Mating often happens just after
laying. Also, noting the date eggs were laid on the cage makes
it easy to see when the next clutch might be laid
(every 4 weeks +/- in my collection).
