I've found the best way of candling is to leave the eggs in the incubating substrate
(so you dont risk damaging them when moving them). Take a pen torch or similar small
torch, and hold it just above, or very lightly touching one side of the top of the
egg, shining through to the bottom. If the egg glows pink, and you can see veins, its
fertile. Bright yellow = not fertile. Best results are seen in the dark.

Best wishes,

Sarah,

>From my understanding the eggs must feel somewhat like a marshmallow. A good
way to tell if your egg is holding a baby gecko is to do a process called
"candling", this is when you put a flashlight up to the egg and illuminate
the inside to see if there is a baby in there.

Derek,

About your eggs not calcifying. Are they supposed to calcify as soon as the

female lays them... or are they supposed to be soft and then calcify? My
eggs were totally soft when I found them. One of them actually did calcify over night
and take shape the other one collapsed. The only thing is that this one is leathery
or rubbery textured. Is this natural?

Thanks,
Sarah
