Hi William,

I've been advised to use betadine as it has some antifungal
properties as well as anti-bacterial. At this point I don't know
what I'm dealing with, so I'll continue unless tests
turn up something that indicates a change. What I don't know
is if the lesions are the problem (external), or if some other
illness is weakening their immune system and allowing bacteria
or fungus to take over. I've also found out that are municipal water is more
heavily treated than it used to be and needs more than sitting
out for a day or so to dissipate chlorine. No idea if this is related.

Hi Neil,
I wonder if a 2% solution of malachite green would help?

Hi All,

A while back I posted about a cb U. phantasticus with skin lesions.
After soaking in betadine and administering baytril for 8 days,
there seems to be improvement regarding the lesions, but the
gecko went off feed and died after a couple of weeks. Her cage mate
also developed a couple of small lesions. I treated this one with
iodine only as the baytril didn't seem to help the other one.
It passed away shortly after the first one. They have been sent to a
vet college for histo, but unfortunately were in the fridge for
several days while my vet was away. I have noticed similar lesions
on 3 animals in the vivarium next to the one these geckos were in.
They are all active and feeding, but I fear this will not end well.
A friend of mine is a vet at a university here and is going to try to
come by on the weekend to culture samples from some animals and
 their cage environment.

So far only U. phantasticus are affected. Two "spiny" Uroplatus that were
with the first animals to get sick are still healthy. I believe it to
be something in the environment, either fungus, bacteria or both
getting out of hand in the substrate or moss covering. I have a lot
 of naturalistic
vivaria, this could get really nasty if not contained.
