IT is impossible for a mealworm to eats its way out from the inside. First off if you ever closely watch your leo grab a mealie it tends to go for the head first, which it then crunches quite nicely. Secondly there is no way that the mealworm could survive in the digestive juices of a leo.

This misinformation stems from something that can happen. If mealworms are left to roam around in the cage with the leo it is possible for the mealworms to eat their way into the leo. Assuming it doesnt resist. My guess would be that someone saw this one day (mealworms eating their way in from the outside) and assumed that the mealworms ate their way out of the stomach of their beloved pet.

I would worry about feeding mealworms, Ive raised many leos almost exclusively on mealworms with no ill effects, unless you count a fat healthy leo as an ill effect.
