I'm familiar with your problem. I have a very active and firm female. My male however is skinny and very shy. the female eats all the food and he can get the crumbs. my male now lives spearated from the female and he's doing fine. When I put him back with my female a few month ago, he immediately started to loose weight. P. picta is a nice gecko, but a couple has to match. If one of the two is dominant, you've got a problem. So I think with this gecko it's just a bit of luck whether a couple can get along.
