Thanks for the reply. I did A LOT of research last night and figured out a few things. It turns out the embryo does develop on the top of the egg and it seems it "rests" on the yolk sac and not stuck to the shell as I previously thought. I remember back in a Developmental Biology class/lab where we looked at a 5-day old chicken embryo with a piece of the shell removed to see the heart (very sad). Spider gecko eggs are much thinner than chicken eggs so in an attempt to figure out what the little pink blob was, I held it on an angle to the light and there it was - the little pulse. You don't need X-ray vision ;)
