Well isn't it just coincidence that my newest hatchling (hatched today)decided to retain his yolk sac, only one day after the other hatchling died after his yolk sac was removed?

I came home to check the incubator since it's been the predictable 71 days of incubation and there was the baby with a yellow blob attached. The vitelline arteries/veins were completely dried as was the outer part of the yolk sac so I took a pair of tiny scissors, dipped them in iodine, and snipped the dried vessels.

Does anyone have an idea why the yolk was "retained" and not completely absorbed? I've been searching the net but haven't been successful.

This is a spider gecko. This is the first hatchling from this female. The incubator is 40% RH.
