So tonight I happened to see a freshly
shed Blaberus discoidales in my roach colony. I decided that if my beardy
could tackle a couple of these monsters in a sitting, my U. hekeli,
Kurt, should get a chance to try one too.
I took the succulent white creepy-crawly out and
placed it in the cage on the opposite side of the cage from Kurt. He
immediately noticed it, and had crept up and pounced on it before I could second
guess myself for feeding him a roach a little bigger than his head. He sat
with it in his mouth for a good 5 minutes letting it twitch before heaving
himself up to a more appropriate chewing perch. He then commenced to chomp
it to pieces for about another 2 minutes before getting it all
down.
Needless to say, he looks very full now. Oh,
and the way he chewed that, and the fact that it was a soft white fresh-shed, I
sure hope impaction is not a risk - thoughts?
