Hi Brandon,

What was the Canadian connection, did you get them from Canada or I am mistaking this for another person?

Robert,

If your still on the list, Jared has a point, however this list is
lacking in the exchange of info. Almost as if people are afraid to post.

I am not sure where this perception is coming from. I think newbies are
intimidated anywhere they go on any list. I think if you would like info
to be tailored to you, introduce yourself, state your experience level
and folks will have a much better idea of how to communicate with you.
Be specific as possible in your questions and know that no question is
stupid. As some old wise fart said, it is stupid not to ask questions! ;)

There is a list I was a member of that all would do well to take
lessons from, however most on this list wouldn’t care for the topic.
The list is the "tesla" list on pupman.com there was a free flow of
information from the more advanced to the less advanced at all levels
though out a variety of topics. However here is a different attitude,
mostly the more knowledgeable are more guarded of the information they
harbor, with exceptions of a few individuals.

I don't know how long you have been on this list, however, if you ask a
question and folks on here have that gecko, certainly you have a good
chance of getting a response. Occasionally someone asks about a gecko
none of us apparently have, like the Strophurus the Canadian gentleman
was asking about the other day. I think the days of hording info have
been over for some time. If you breed something that unique someone is
always willing to buy it. Places like kingsnake.com and other gecko
classifieds make it a lot easier to sell geckos these days.

This harboring or protection is not unwarranted for in most cases
peoples livelihood depends on hard learned lessons. On some level the
list needs to open up so newbies don’t feel insignificant.

I'm sure no-one on here wants newbies to feel that way. I do feel that
newbies should do their share of reading and research to be well
grounded in gecko husbandry. Folks here do a great job of recommending
where to go and how to do that research. The GGA bookstore is a good
place to start.

I hope not to alienate any one on this list, a few have helped me
greatly, and you lurkers speak up your question and the answers of
others help people who wouldn't have thought to ask.

In the past I have referred folks to the archives to review topics we
have covered extensively here. This is still a good idea, however, the
newer archives are somewhat difficult to use as they go month by month
as far as ability to search. The older archives before Sept 2002 are
easier to search as the search covers the whole older archive at once.
If you are a shy newbie or old timer the archives are a great source of
info.

Finally: you may have to repeat a question to get an answer. Please
don't take it personally! Life catches up with all of us and we may not
have the time to get to your query before it slips our minds.

Julie B.
