Hi Dana.

Hi Julie -

Thanks again for your reassurance and advice - I have a few more questions below.

It is my pleasure!

I have a Giant Day gecko and a couple of juvenile crested geckos and periodically have to clean mold off the bamboo in their vivariums.

Hopefully not keeping them together (Days and Rhacs), eh? ;)

No, they are in separate homes!

Just checking, you never know. When I first started out I, like many beginners, was under the delusion that I was the Queen of the reptile universe and I could put anyone in the terrarium! ;0

I am wondering how harmful the mold is for them. Should I really be
freaking out about this? Today we are putting a Hepa filter in the
room, which will help the airflow in the room in general, but I'm
wondering if I'm keeping their homes too humid. For the crested's
home, I keep the humidity around 60% or more, and for the Giant Day I
have been keeping it no less humid than 65% - I generally keep it
above 70%.

That sounds like the high end for sure. I would just keep wiping off the
mold until you can get different tanks like you describe below. A Hepa
is a good idea for any dedicated gecko room. I have one.

Since you say this is the high end humidity levels for these vivariums, I am wondering what you recommend, and what are the acceptable low levels for each?

I would say 30% would be the low end, somewhere around 30-50% is fine for the all your gex.

What would you say are good median levels of humidity for each (for the Rhacs on the one hand, and the P.m. grandis on the other?). Unfortunately, we got our hepa air filter out of storage last night and the darn thing won't work, but I'll get another soon!

LOL! I love it when you drag the thing out and can't find any filters in the stores for it, so you have to buy another!

Eventually, we will get some tanks with air holes near the bottoms,
but for now they are in all glass tanks. Any info or suggestions will
be much appreciated.
By the way, thanks to those who answered my question about my young
crested who won't eat baby food - you gave me good advice and
alleviated my concern. He still prefers crickets to baby food, but I
guess he'll grow into liking the baby food eventually and he is
growing well anyway.

Good deal. He'll make it!

Julie B.

Thank you very much!
- Dana

Thanks for your concern and attention to detail!

Julie B.
