Hi Alan Thanks for this interesting post. Many people on the list, including myself, do indeed study/observe geckos in the wild. Unfortunately I (and probably most others) have not had the opportunity to date to visit "your neck of the woods" to see the marvellous geckos you mention.
Many species of gecko are "sit and wait" predators. It is interesting what you say regarding co-ordinating the height at which they hunt. One could speculate that this might be the height that optimises the balance between the availability of favoured prey items and the minimisation of predation danger upon themselves. It might also be a product of where they "live" during the day i.e. they may not range far from their daytime retreats and their preferred retreats occur at a certain level in the environment. I'd certainly be interested to hear more about what you observe!
