I moved 8 geckos and a dog in my car fron Ontario, Canada to New Jersey,
it took about 10 hours :) 
The smaller the container, the less that can happen injury wise to the
gecko. I used a little plastic  shoebox for each so they could move a
little though. Only difference is that I moved in August so I didn't
need heat packs. What you have there sounds fine. NY to CT is only a few
hours, right?

I bought a circle back leopard gecko in NY and I live in CT.  I put one
of those 24 hour heat packs in his box he came in with some paper towels
on it so that he will not get too hot.  Will this be a safe way of
transporting a leopard gecko?
