Thanks for the info Rick. I did try candling it - it did look yellow to me, but reddish to my friend so I'm going to keep it for a while and see what happens. Won't it just collapse or something?

The egg should candle a pink color if it's full of blood and an embryo. If it candles yellow and is getting moldy, I'd say there's very little chance it's viable.
