My older gecko Na’Toth seems to be wasting away. She hasn’t been eating
many of the mealworms I’ve been feeding her, so I tried crickets. In
order to get her to notice them I have to take out all of the furniture
from her enclosure so it’s just her and the crickets. After a while when
she stops eating I put her furniture back so she can go and hide again.
She ate several a few days ago but then the next day I found regurgitated
crickets in the enclosure.

I had the same sort of problem with her a couple of years ago and took her
to a vet. At that time the problem turned out to be that the temperature
in her cage wasn’t warm enough. That’s definitely not the case this time.
I had to try to force feed her while she was recovering, which was a trial
because we never could get her to open her mouth – even the vet couldn’t
do it!

She’s been a weird gecko from the beginning. I bought her in a pet store
(yeah, I know…) and all she’s ever wanted to do is hide. She’s totally
different from Sadie, the gecko I bought from Julie, who’s a little
glutton and has a definite personality. She’s a doll!

This might sound cruel, but I’m not sure I want to spend a lot of money or
time trying to find out what’s wrong with Na’Toth and then trying to get
her better, under the circumstances. I also don’t want her to starve
herself to death, because I know that has to be painful. Is it possible to
euthanize a gecko like a dog or cat?
