One really constructive way to donate would be to fund a student to develop
the feature(s) you want during their summer vacation. CUED did so for Peter
C & myself last summer, and between us we managed some good code clean-ups
and found a number of crash bugs.

Yes, your work was great and we are much the better for your
participation! Thank you again!

You can always sign up for the Google Summer of Code!

FWIW, the total amount of money donated to gEDA is small potatos. We
could pay a student for almost a week at the current level of funding.
It's not going to make a big dent in your rent. That's why we're not
proposing to use the money to fund students.

Also, paying developers from the project potentially creates an
insider/outsider situation, where some long-term developers become
jealous that others are being paid while they aren't. Look at the
crybaby behavior in the Debian project when the developers attempted
to pay some people to finish off the project. We want to avoid that.

For now, we are very grateful if an external organization, like
Cambridge University or Google, pays somebody they select to work on
gEDA. However, the gEDA Project itself has neither the money nor the
organizational structure to pay people.
