        I've look at all the code diffs, rebuilt, played with gschem
briefly and I didn't see anything particularly odd.  I like these changes
since this really is the right way of doing things.  

        When you are ready with these patches, send me another note
and I'll take another look.  After that I think it'll be grand to merge
them to the geda/gaf master on gpleda.org.

        I'll keep banging on this version of gschem to see if I can get
some droppings or invalid drawing to show up, but as a first glance, 
it looks good.

PS. With these changes it would interesting to see how well cairo behaves
    instead of gdk (in terms of render performance and general application
    feel).
