Wouldn't we need two different mime-types for that?

I agree text or application would fit, and that we should probably seek
advice from someone familiar with the registration process. If we were
to consider zipped archive files at some future time (or give a special
type for garchive output?), then perhaps we might want them all to be
application/vnd.geda.______

DJ, other PCB people... do you object to PCB using the same vnd.geda.
namespace? (The DBus path uses the namespace "org.seul.geda.pcb" at the
moment, and no-one noticed / complained!)
