It seems that gEDA and PCB need some MIME types registering, and I suspect that the gEDA "organisation" qualifies for the vnd. tree of registrations.
http://www.iana.org/cgi-bin/mediatypes.pl We'll need to do a bit of work to get things rolling, but I think this will benefit us in the long run in terms of desktop integration. text/vnd.geda.schematic ext: sch magic: ?? text/vnd.geda.symbol ext: sym magic: ?? text/vnd.geda.pcb-layout ext: pcb magic: ?? text/vnd.geda.pcb-footprint ext: fp magic: ?? text/rs-274x (gerber?) ext: gbr (others?) magic: ?? (This is a recognised standard, so probably gets a "proper" standard MIME type, but requires a standard to be published, and a more formal aprovals process. This may have to be done by / via the standards body which ratified the RS-274X standard.) Does anyone think its a good idea to try and register these mime-types with IANA officially? Is anyone willing to help me do any necessary leg work?
