It does pass the return value to the parent, else makefiles would never 
fail...

However, I think there is a problem with the Windows port of 
g_spawn_command_line_sync from GLIB. I just checked, and the exit_status 
is always 0, even for a program wired to return 1. On Cygwin, it works fine.
