I should remove that print, its harmless. It means xgsch2pcb is not translated to your native language. I get it when running with en_GB, it might be present with a "en" locale too, which is its untranslated language. > When I tried to start a new project, gsch2pcb complained about a missing > templates directory. Yes, templates was a feature I added for the University here, for a robot project we run, I have: find /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/ /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/ /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/01-IDP_Empty_Board /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/01-IDP_Empty_Board/template.pcb /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/01-IDP_Empty_Board/template.txt /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/01-IDP_Empty_Board/template-io.sch /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/01-IDP_Empty_Board/template.gsch2pcb /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board/template-sensors.sch /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board/template.pcb /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board/template.txt /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board/template-io.sch /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board/template.gsch2pcb /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/02-IDP_Prototyping_board /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/02-IDP_Prototyping_board/template-i2c.sch /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/02-IDP_Prototyping_board/template.pcb /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/02-IDP_Prototyping_board/template.txt /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/02-IDP_Prototyping_board/template-io.sch /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/02-IDP_Prototyping_board/template.gsch2pcb e.g.: cat /usr/share/geda-xgsch2pcb/templates/03-IDP_Line_following_board/template.txt IDP Line following board Contains schematics and PCB layout of the line following board provided in the IDP electrical kit. You may modify the layout for your own design. Format: one line description, blank line, long description. This is loaded and shown in the GUI. All other files in those directories are copied, renaming "template" to the project name the user is creating. If those are missing, the option you get is "Blank" for start a new project with no schematic pages, and no PCB file pre-made. > First impressions: > > * Nice, clean GUI Thank Peter Brett for that. > * No menu bar :-| There didn't really seem much need with the number of options available. We'd basically only have a "File" menu, and a very bare "Help" menu. If we needed more options, a menu would become attractive. > * No pop-up help for the buttons. No caption to the buttons either. However, I was > able to guess their meaning anyway ;-) Ah, captions show on my box, for example: http://geda.seul.org/tools/xgsch2pcb/xgsch2pcb.png Ah tooltips don't auto-magically appear when hovering on the menu items, which is a minus point - especially if your button captions are disabled! I'm not sure why, but I had hoped they might "just work" from the button captions. > > * schematics and pcb load ok. :-) > > * I can't do copy-paste between different gschem windows. If you multiple-select in the schematic window, and hit "Edit schematic", it will open all pages in the same gschem window, and copy-paste will work. We need to fix copy-paste between different running copies of gschem, to use the Gdk / X11 clipboard mechanism. (I prefer that to the idea of making gschem a single-instance only app). > For more comments, I'll have to do some real work with gsch2pcb... I look forward to comments and bug reports. Yes (Ales, if you're reading... please could you change the website!!), the current version is 0.1.2, which corresponded (roughly) time-wise to gEDA 1.4.0. -- Peter Clifton Electrical Engineering Division, Engineering Department, University of Cambridge, 9, JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge CB3 0FA Tel: +44 (0)7729 980173 - (No signal in the lab!) _______________________________________________ geda-dev mailing list [email protected] http://www.seul.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/geda-dev
