        Historically I have intentionally not imposed any fixed project
directory structure on any users.  Please, if possible, make it so that
the user is in control and can pick their own directory hierarchy or file
organization (i.e. "allow people to incorporate files into the project
no matter where they are" as you stated).  Keeping things flexible has
worked out well in the past.
