I think (and there for am alive and can be wrong),

that computer graphics tends to make the top left corner the origin.
Humans tend to make the bottom left corner the orgin. Silly humans, the
center of the screen is the true origin. gschem follows "silly" human
convention.

Therefore to correct for this the top is the bottom the bottom the top
and left the left and right the right. If you need more of an
explenation follow the white rabit.
