| laptop so it's definitely doable.  (that said, look at the 2.x configure

| outside package dependency "should" be gtk.  libz and libbz2 are both in
| the tarball, though if you've installed IV, you already have both of them.

MacOSX has all of that (including X11) except gtk. And GTK can
be had via Fink. So I guess that means the best plan will be to
try and build it under fink. (I'm a little surprised that there
is not a Fink package for it already.)
