FWIW, I haven't even been able to get all of qt3 to build on my alpha.
It builds some binaries which it needs to finish building itself with 
and those segfault.

In fact I've had lots of problems with qt when used anywhere except on
linux x86 so I'm less than enthused about using it.  I should
try building on my solaris box to see how it goes there, but I'm 
not holding my breath.

gtk isn't bug free, but at least I seem to be able to get it installed
on various platforms.
