Flip this on its head.. Pin numbers on the schematic _ARE_ back-annotation from the part of the work-flow which maps light->heavy. I propose to make the "magic" which handles slot and pin-number from just another case of back-annotation, in this case, executed by the net-lister / "parts" module which is responsible for mapping light symbols, transistors with "BCE" (for example) into "pin 1,2,3". Slots would be similar.
