Well, this is the target, discussing about ^_^ > Sure, sometimes on this list is much traffic -- seems that Joerg can > type very fast, but he seems writing somewhere else now. One solution: Subscribe but disable mail delivery, so you can > post questions, but are not flooded with too much traffic. List traffic is a possible problem, but, really isn't the single reason about this question. > Kai-Martin > some time ago wrote about reading the list via a newgroup client -- > seems to be a nice solution, but I have to investigate how this works. For this big traffic is a good solution, in Debian spanish group there was people, few years ago, that it did, and today we use Debian groups across usenet (or at least we could, there are some time that I don't use Debian groups and lost my account). > Back to other languages: I know about some German lists or newsgroups > with very little traffic -- so some people post in the German and > English group at the some time! Bad idea. If you need a smart answer or > have an important comment, you will always prefer the English list, > because this is where the developers and most users are. These are the dissavantages about create several list, but, note that we have Geda users, Ngspice users and Gnucap users (if there are other I don't know). Gnucap and Ngspice have very little traffic and the crossposting if possible at this moment. In fact, myself sometime ask in ngspice group, after wait for a answer, ask in Geda group. Note too, that exits a Portuguese mail list, I don't see crossposting between two list. But, We need think about advantages about native mail list, primary for the user: - User proximity - User union - User feeling Is something near LUG: I think that read and writing in the own language of the user, he develop a more feeling because him can feel more nearest to others users. (If possible understand this paragraph with my bad english?) How you say, in this list are the main developer (Al Davis, Stuart Brorson, Kurt Peters...) but if possible that the newbie (or others) feel restrained to send basic questions, more if him have "problems" with english. In other side, read and write in native language should produce encounters between users, because -in theory- they are nearest (in geographical terms). All years, Stuart Brorson announces Spring encounter for Geda, but, who can travel to USA? Isn't for all people. Local encounters will born in "local" mail list and these encounters will produce new users. Finally, are people that don't want (or don't could) write or read in other language that his own language: I know several good electronics thecnical that they can't desenvolved good with english, don't tell them to subscribe a english list. > And one very important point: Here I can exercise my English. Yes, here I can exercise my poor english too, but, really, is the best place to do it? Maybe frustrating need an answer and aren't sure if you don't obtain due to a language problem. I don't want to create a flame, only want that we think about is it really a good idea for Geda create other languages mail list. If most of people think: no, isn't a good idea, let's forgot them. > Best wishes, > > Stefan Salewski Is a good thing we have this mail list, where people explained his own points of view without drop into fanatism. Is a pleasure changes my ideas with your ideas, Stefan. Sorry about my very bad english. Salud y Revolución. Lobo. -- Libertad es poder elegir en cualquier momento.
