I really don't see why you call the current way "normal" when it is clearly different from what almost all other Gtk programs do. Yes, it is convenient for some workflows, but then it is also inconvenient for at least one other workflow (mine). Maybe just add another menu item, call it "Path To Clipboard" or something? Just run the shell inside Emacs and use the clipboard-yank command.
