Ri In Mo, one of the world's longest-serving political prisoners, whowas 
imprisoned and tortured for 34 years in South Korea in defence of hisbeliefs. 
Born in 1917, Ri In Mo was a war correspondent of the North KoreanPeople's Army 
during the 1950-53 Korean War.


 
Captured and imprisoned under horrific conditons by the South Koreans atthe end 
of the war, he was, many years later, offered his freedom in exchangefor 
signing a form renouncing his political beliefs.


 
He repeatedly refused, and became one of the world's longest servingpolitical 
prisoners.


 
Repatriated to North Korea 40 years after being captured, he wasreceived as a 
national hero of the highest order. Ri In Mo's life potentlyshows that faith 
and will are stronger than guns and violence and can never beshackled.
