Event: http://futureindonesia.org/symposium/ http://futureindonesia.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/The-Agenda1.pdf Since its independence day in 1945, the Republic of Indonesia has been busy with the questions of identity, particularly the agreement to peacefully balance the existing cultural and religious diversity. This agreement became the foundation of the establishment of Indonesia's Pancasila (the five principles of the State). After the political reform in 1998 overthrown the authoritarian regime, democratization and the media have set a new frame for the public sphere in Indonesia. Awareness on the diversity of the people has significantly grown and triggered new conflicts of identity. Modernization and globalization has prompted further differentiation within the society, which nurtured a widespread feeling of a 'loss of unity'. Conflicts of identity fueled by political agendas support a sentiment of fading 'harmony'. Thus, it is important to address the question: what concept of 'Unity in Diversity' (Bhineka Tunggal Ika) shall be the basis for Future Indonesia? The symposium is organized by the Research Network Future Indonesia - with kind support of Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel (CAU), the University for Applied Science Kiel, the University Passau and the Center for Good Governance (CGG).<br> The detailed program is available here: http://futureindonesia.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/The-Agenda1.pdf Participation is free and online registration is possible here: http://futureindonesia.org/registration-2/.
