To be clear, I'm not suggesting a branch that gets merged with develop at some intersection point, I'm just suggesting a branch where the changes are all stacked together so they're easy to try out. There are too many interactions between these changes and the rest of gem5 to expect there not to be disaster when trying to merge things if they've had time to stew apart from each other. Trust me, it's been a pain to keep things working as I've been rebasing them over time.
I just want people to be able to see what the end goal is, and that it's working. Also there are people who are very interested in this capability, and I want to make it easy for them to use it without having to wait for a few months for the reviews to trickle through.
