Hi Andreas, Absolutely! If someone is happy to do get McPat in shape and do something useful in combination with gem5, that’s great. I am merely saying that in the meanwhile, let’s remove those rather unfortunate 40k lines of code as they are outdated and send the wrong message.
gem5 is already supporting “stats-based” power models, as demonstrated by http://www.powmon.ecs.soton.ac.uk. All the plumbing is there, all you have to do is plug in the coefficients and power equations. I think the best would be if people out there ran this framework on their existing silicon, and provided the power models as part of gem5. Reliable, robust, and very useful.
