It is much easier to mount the existing disk image, than to make a new
one, unless you are adding an addition disk to the configuration.
After you have done the mount command (which you may have to prefix
with sudo, depending on your flavor of Linux), you then need to copy
the files to the mount point, verify the permissions and ownership (I
make all the files I copy onto the disk have root ownership and
group), and then umount it with (sudo) umount /mount/point.
You will still need vmlinux, as that is loaded separately from the
disk image.
