Sort of a dumb question... :) If you have 1000 songs in a category, does SAM actually parse the entire category to find a song to play that fits the rules?
Also, if you set rules (in a PAL) that has different rules for each category, does that set of rules pertain to just that category, until the rule is changed on another category? Example: If I have a rule for 90 minutes separation on tracks for the Power Hit category, then have 120 minutes separation on the Heavy Rotation category ... will SAM actually use the new (120 minutes) rule for that category? Am I correct in assuming that the 120 minute rule will stay in place until it is actually changed again (as the PAL runs again and hits the Power category? I am having difficulty with, what appears to be, SAM only going so far into a category to find a song. Now if you have so many songs in a category, that over a couple days, SAM only needs to go half way to find a song that fits the rules, how do I get the rest to be played? If I extend the rules (album or track) I may not have a song that actually ever will meet the criteria. Do I need to move some of these songs to a new category? Enough questions for this message. :) :) From [email protected] Tue Oct 9 13:31:25 2007 From: [email protected] (Spacial) Date: Tue Oct 9 13:59:20 2007 Subject: [General-discussion] Playlist Rules In-Reply-To: <003601c80a93$37fbd3a0$6401a...@radioman> References: <003601c80a93$37fbd3a0$6401a...@radioman> Message-ID: <007301c80a9a$38a61930$a9f24b...@com> Going to knock these out line by line here. " Sort of a dumb question... :) If you have 1000 songs in a category, does SAM actually parse the entire category to find a song to play that fits the rules?" SAM will start at the top of the list and run through each song till it finds one, if song number two fits the criteria, SAM stops looking. As for your example there, If you change the rules (via PAL), then those rules are in place until changed again. Simple as that. Any song chosen after those rules were changed will be based on those rules. " If I extend the rules (album or track) I may not have a song that actually ever will meet the criteria. " This is correct, this is why you need to make sure to keep a good healthy selection. "Do I need to move some of these songs to a new category?" That won't help as it will simply thin the already thin heard. Hope this helps. James Henline.
