I wrote a little app called DNASmon which can monitor up to 5 shoutcast
servers and will throw an email when it detects an issue. It checks every
two minutes. http://www.2ngradio.com and click on software. It's a freebie
and recently released. I do have an update due in the next few weeks but
otherwise it'll help a bit if you're using Shoutcast.

That sounds really nice.  Can it detect if the stream is buffering
occasionally?  I would think it would have to monitor constantly for that.
