Regarding LyX, Jean-Marc Lasgouttes of the LyX Team provided me with a patch to solve the doublespacing problem with Arabic against the current 1.3.3 version. It solved the problem of one double-spaced paragraph but fails in more than one para. If anyone wants to lend a hand or is interested in more details, I will be happy to provide it.
