Louisiana State law prohibits the requirement of any business from requiring
disclosure of Social Security Numbers. Hence the fact you can get it
removed from your Driver's License. Point out that it is against the law
for them to require SSN's for non-students (you students can just provide
ID) and they should find another method of identification.

This is what I got back from LSU. MPITA......
I understand, however the only way I can determine whether or not they are
affliated with the university is through their ssn's. There are too many
people with the same name to tell them apart. I cannot make them give me
ssn's. Without them I cannot guarantee monday deliverence of the permits.

There are a couple members of our group who have been victims identity
theft and/or credit card fraud. Hence, the group is really reluctant to
release their ssn's. If there is any alternative to this, please let me
know. I was also told on the phone by Sandy Scallan that the SSN is not
mandatory for parking tags.
