I'm trying to tweak a higher resolution out of an old Compaq Presario 433 (cpu and monitor in one box). I'm running XFree on it just fine but in 640X480 mode. I know that 1027x768 is possible, from reading this webpage: http://web14.compaq.com/falco//detail.asp?FAQnum=FAQ3390, but there are no refresh rates on this webpage. The box was built ~1993, so I'm afraid if I try a higher refresh than I have now, I'll burn the monitor.
My question: what is a safe and sure way to determine the refresh rates of a monitor if I can't find the specs on it? I've looked all over the web for any docs on this monitor, but the URL above is all I've found. I'm kinda thinking that I may need to open the monitor's case and look around for more info.
