I've come across this site too: http://www.linuxcommand.org . It by no
means has the depth of information
that the LDP has, but it's got a couple great tutorials about newbie
things such as file permissions and
beginning shell scripting.

I'd also like to bring up the existence of the Open Projects Network of
IRC. IRC has the advantage of
near real-time conversations at the same having access to other web
resources. Aside from being the
location of the interview with Monsieur Gagne, OPN is the home of many
open source projects. There
are channels dedicated to a lot of big projects there, and many of them
exist to provide help for
others. Myself, I'm usually on there in #redhat and #hlug. My nick is
'zaf' or 'zaph' if anyone
wants to come looking for me. Just connect to server
irc.openprojects.net.

Don't have time now to explain why this is such a great resource (can
somebody else?): http://www.linuxdoc.org/. Check out the HOWTOs link:

For an in-depth explanation of how Linux boots up and runs:

you may not understand all terms and concepts in this HOWTO, you will as we
